The BIOMIMICRY CENTER 3.8 AT Arizona State University

Location: Tempe Arizona

Completion: 06/18

Size: 2,000 sf

The Biomimicry Center at Arizona State University is pleased to announce the completion of its flagship office that showcases the potential of biomimicry to create workspaces inspired by nature. Center staff collaborated with a creative team of architects from the Tempe, Arizona-based Architekton to probe the natural world for ideas. The Biomimicry Center has incorporated sustainable innovations into every phase of the design. One of only a handful of biomimetically built offices in the world, the Biomimicry Center at ASU will serve as a model for other designers who are interested in mimicking nature to increase the sustainability and health of their spaces.

Biomimicry is an emerging field that turns to nature for inspiration in creating sustainable solutions and regenerative design models. The core concept of biomimicry is emulating nature’s strategies and the deep patterns that govern the natural world, known as Life’s Principles. The Biomimicry Center used these Principles as a guide throughout the remodel process to create an office space that, among other things, consumes less energy and material, adapts to changing conditions in order to accommodate a wide variety of activities, and uses life-friendly chemistry. The result: a space that is beautiful, healthy, and sustainable.
