What does the trades industry need most from CNM?

“Work-based learning options – credit for on the job skills training through internship or other credit for prior learning assessments”

“Training for non-neurotypical learners, such as young adults with high-functioning autism, who have a more difficult time with ‘traditional’ learning settings”

“A 2-4 year program dedicated to design (commercial, graphic design). There was a very expensive private art school (that did a poor job) that closed its doors. I think there is a great need in NM for a formal Design Program at a reasonable cost. CNM has many classes already—they just need to be pulled together.”

What additionally would you like to tell us?

“Future Focused Education is a work-based learning intermediary, the space we occupy is rather new in our community. In the process of placing young people in internships, we convene employers in Healthcare, Construction, Business, and IT with regularity as we seek to refine how we prepare young people for the workplace and inform how high schools are approaching CTE courses. CNM takes similar steps for its purposes. There would likely be value in collaborating on some of those convenings together—allowing for industry to see that there is truly a bigger path towards career preparation.”

“Financial literacy”

“Be inclusive in your listening/inviting of industry. In the past it seems only some are invited to the table.”

“Keep collaborating with industry/other training programs. It will take us all!”

“I was disappointed that CNM didn’t reach out to us but was happy that they did reach our to one of our contractors to help them revise their carpentry curriculum.”

“Educate high-school counselors on the value of trades”

“We can’t get to children as an industry. You can.”

“Have an elective in middle school that discusses all the trades you teach.”

“Reach kids about these opportunities.”

“I think CNM has a huge opportunity to put together a Commercial/Industrial Art/Design ‘School’ (NM does not have one).”

“Start talking with middle school age kids about trades training!”

“You have been a great partner with our organization and have provided excellent wildland fire courses. We respectfully ask CNM to respond to our current RFP for wildland fire training to maintain this valuable partnership and resource.”

“I saw a comment in the chat that I would like to reinforce—financial assistance for the non-degree programs as well as the degree programs.”

“Thank you for being here in NM. This type of training and education is so critical for our city, state and country.”
